Climate Adaptation Summit 2021

  • Prime Minister’s addressed at Climate Adaptation Summit 2021 which held on January 25, 2021.
  • The climate adaptation summit was hosted by the Netherlands government, was held online and it is being called “CAS Online”.
  • The summit was organized with the aim of realizing the transitions which is required for a climate-resilient world.
  • India has committed to provide the clean cooking fuel to 80 million rural households during the summit. It also committed to connect the 64 million households with the piped water supply.
  • Prime Minister Modi in the summit said that by the year 2030:
  • India will target 450 gigawatt of renewable energy capacity.
  • India will restore 26 million hectares of degraded land.
  • He also said that India is promoting the LED lights and is also saving 38 million tons of carbon dioxide emissions per year.

 

Successful Maiden Test Launch of Akash-NG Missile

  • DRDO conducted the successful maiden launch of Akash-NG (New Generation) Missile from Integrated Test Range off the coast of Odisha on 25 January 2021.
  • Akash-NG is a new generation Surface to Air Missile meant for use by Indian Air Force with an aim of intercepting high maneuvering low RCS aerial threats.
  • The Akash-NG system has been developed with better deployability compared to other similar systems with canisterized launcher and much smaller ground system footprint.

Centre invested Rs 27,000 cr for schemes relating to blue economy

  • Union Minister for Fisheries Dr. Giriraj Singh has said that the Centre has invested 27 thousand crore rupees for schemes relating to blue economy
  • He laid the foundation stone for the Aquatic Quarantine facility at Aquatic Animal Quarantine Centre at Padappai.
  • He also informed that the government will launch a pilot project of cage culture fishing facility at Rameswaram.

National Voters Day

  • In order to encourage more young voters to take part in the political process, Government of India has decided to celebrate January 25 every year as "National Voters' Day".
  • The main objective of the day is to educate and encourage young voters to vote during elections.
  • The Election Commission of India was founded on 25 January 1950.
  • The 11th National Voters' Day with the theme ‘Making Our Voters Empowered, Vigilant, Safe and Informed.’
  • The EC has launched the new initiative of downloading e-EPIC, digital Voter’s ID, from the national voter’s portal.
  • Also, the Hon'ble President of India launched 'Radio Hello Voters' - a 24x7 online digital radio service that will stream voter awareness programmes
