Kapurthala-Taran Taran road declared as NH- 703 A named as Shri Guru Nanak Dev Ji Marg

  • The road starting from Kapurthala connecting Goindwal Sahib and terminating near Taran in Punjab has been declared as new National Highway - 703 A named as Shri Guru Nanak Dev Ji Marg.
  • The naming would be effective from next month. The decision has been taken to mark the 550th Birth Anniversary of Shri Guru Nanak Dev.

National Institute of Nutrition centenary stamp released

  • A special commemorative postal stamp of the National Institute of Nutrition (NIN), Hyderabad was released by Union Minister for Health & Family Welfare, Harsh Vardhan.
  • The stamp has been brought out under the “Corporate My stamp” scheme of India Posts. These stamps are of limited edition and are made to order.
  • Alongside these customised themed stamps, the NIN also opted for printing its centenary logo.
  • About 5,000 stamps with a face value of ₹5 per stamp were printed and India Posts would print an additional 1,000 sheets for sale online at e-post office and for display and sale in national and global philately exhibitions by the Department.

IIT Kharagpur graduate develops unique device to curb vehicular air-pollution

  • A graduate from IIT Kharagpur has developed a unique device that curbs vehicular air pollution by many degrees.
  •  As per the report, Debayan Saha, a mechanical engineering graduate from IIT Kharagpur, has invented a device that, once fitted on the exhaust pipe of a car will lower the air pollution emitted by the car manifolds.
  • In addition to this, the device also claims to neutralise the pollution emitted from other 10 cars in its vicinity.

PM Modi releases book titled Bridgital Nation

                                            

  • Releasing a book titled 'Bridgital Nation' in New Delhi, PM Modi said that positivity, optimism and faith in talent and resources is the thought of New India.
  • He said that technology and talent were not a threat but force multiplier. He added that technology is the bridge between aspiration and achievement.
  • The Prime Minister said that the technological interventions have reformed and transformed governance in India in the last five years.
  • He mentioned that through technology the government was able to reach the people and provided them Bank accounts, LPG connection and also health care.

Sri Lanka removed from FATF's Grey List

  • Sri Lanka has been removed from the "Grey List" of the international terror financing watchdog FATF, according to a media report.
  • The island nation will no longer be subject to the Financial Action Task Force's monitoring under its on-going global anti-money laundering and countering the financing of terrorism (AML/CFT) compliance process, the Colombo Gazette.

  • Two Nasa astronauts have embarked on the first all-female space walk in a historic first.
  • Christina Koch and Jessica Meir floated feet-first out of the International Space Station’s (ISS) Quest airlock lunchtime UK time, tasked with replacing a failed power control unit.

Visakhapatnam: India-Myanmar Naval Exercise commence onboard INS Ranvijay

  • The opening ceremony of the second edition of 'India Myanmar Naval Exercise' IMNEX-2019 was conducted onboard INS Ranvijay.
  • Myanmar naval ships UMS Sin Phyu Shin (F-14) and UMS Tabinshweti (773) arrived at Visakhapatnam and would engage in professional interaction with Indian Navy personnel for sharing of expertise on various maritime issues between both the navies.
  • During Sea Phase scheduled from October 20 to 22, INS Ranvijay, a guided-missile destroyer and INS Kuthar, a missile corvette will be carrying out a joint exercise with Myanmar ships UMS Sin Phyu Shin, a frigate and UMS Tabinshweti, a corvette in the Bay of Bengal.

Oracle co-CEO Mark Hurd passes away

                          

  • Mark Hurd, who until last month was the co-CEO of software giant Oracle, has passed away, the US media reported. He was 62.
  • Hurd had taken a leave of absence last month to focus on his health.
