  • National Legal Services Authority’s legal services app was launched by Chief Justice of India.

‘PM-DAKSH’ Mobile App

  • Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, in collaboration with NeGD developed the PM-Daksh portal and a Mobile App.
  • Through this portal and App the youth of the Scheduled Castes, Backward Classes will able to avail the benefits of skill development training programmes.
  • The Pradhan Mantri Dakshta Aur Kushalta Sampann Hitgrahi (PM-DAKSH) Yojana is being implemented by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment from the year 2020-21.

 

India’s first Heart Failure Biobank

  • The first Heart Failure Biobank in the country to study genetic, metabolomics and proteomic markers of health outcomes in heart-failure patients.
  • It has been set up at the National Centre for Advanced Research and Excellence in HF (CARE-HF) at the Sree Chitra Tirunal Institute for Medical Sciences and Technology (SCTIMST), in Kerala.

Tokyo Olympics

  • Neeraj Chopra, 23-year-old javelin thrower, became the first Indian to win gold in the history of athletics in Olympics.
  • He won gold men’s javelin throw with his best of 87.58 m
  • Wrestler Bajrang Punia won bronze in the 65kg freestyle segment by defeating Kazakhstan’s Daulet Niyazbekov.

First Women Director of ZSI

  • Dr. Dhriti Banerjee took over as the first Women Director of Zoological Survey of India.
  • The Zoological Survey of India is one of the premier organisations involved in taxonomical studies of fauna.
  • It has its headquarters in Kolkata.
  • The ZSI was started 105 years ago in 1916 by Thomas Nelson Annadale.

 

National Commission for Women

  • Smt. Rekha Sharma has been nominated as the chairperson of National Commission for Women.
  • The National Commission for Women (NCW) is the statutory body of the Government of India, generally concerned with advising the government on all policy matters affecting women.
  • The headquarters of NCW is located at New Delhi.

 

ANNIVERSARY

Quit India Movement Day

  • Union Minister of Culture inaugurated an exhibition on the Quit India Movement in New Delhi which has been organised on its 79th anniversary.
  • In August 1942, Gandhiji started the 'Quit India Movement' and decided to launch a mass civil disobedience movement 'Do or Die' call to force the British to leave India.
  • The Quit India Movement also known as India August Movement or Bharat Chodo Andolan was launched at the Bombay session of the All India Congress Committee (AICC) by Mahatma Gandhi on August 8, 1942.
