NATIONAL NEWS

First State to Establish a Separate Divyang Department

  • Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has announced that the state government will establish a separate Divyang department for the welfare of differently-abled persons and the government has allocated Rs 1,143 crore rupees.
  • Maharashtra is the first state to have such a department.
  • It will formulate policies for the welfare of the disabled by taking into consideration the views of the stakeholders.
  • It will take all the steps for the welfare of Divyang people in the state.

Millets-Smart Nutritive Food Conclave

  • The government has organised a day-long 'Millets-Smart Nutritive Food' Conclave in New Delhi on 05 December 2022, to promote the export of millets.
  • The conclave is a pre-launch event of the International Year of Millets - 2023 organised by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry through its apex agricultural export promotion body, the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA).
  • India is one of the leading producers of millet in the world with an estimated share of around 41 percent in global production.
  • At the first-of-its-kind Millets Conclave, the government will release e-catalogue on 30 potential importing countries and 21 millet producing states of India.

Foundation Day Celebrations of DRI in New Delhi

  • Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will inaugurate the two-day long 65th Foundation Day celebrations of the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) in New Delhi on 05 December 2022.

  • She will also launch the current edition of Smuggling in India Report 2021-22 on the occasion.

  • As many as 22 Customs administrations covering the Asia-Pacific region along with international organisations are invited to the event.

  • The 8th Regional Customs Enforcement Meeting (RCEM) will also be held at the event.

‘One District One Sport’ Scheme

  • Uttar Pradesh (UP), Chief Minister Shri Yogi Adityanath has launched One District One Sport (ODOS), modeled after the government’s highly successful One District One Product (ODOP) scheme.

  • It is to promote sports and sportspersons of UP.

  • Currently, 57 districts have been taken up and divided across 13 sports and the sports department is working on appointing coaches.

 

BANKING

YES Bank Partners with Turtlefin

  • TurtleFin, India’s leading insurtech platform has partnered with YES BANK to create a first-of-its-kind comprehensive technology platform named EasyNsure.

  • EasyNsure will bring multiple insurance partners onto a common platform, providing a host of benefits.

  • So far, the platform has created over 30,000 insurance quotes with more than 6,500 proposals and 5,200 policies being punched.

  • This has helped the platform record a total premium of INR 6,050 lakh.

  • The technology platform will also allow business tracking across the Bank hierarchy, simplifying revenue reconciliation.

World Bank to Finance Bangladesh

  • The World Bank has approved $250 million to Bangladesh.

  • It will strengthen environmental management and promote private sector participation in green investments.

  • The successful implementation of the Bangladesh Environmental Sustainability and Transformation (BEST) project will help the country tackle pollution, benefiting more than 21 million people living in Greater Dhaka and beyond.

  • The project will help in the construction of four vehicle inspection centers using private-public partnership, which will enable inspection of approximately 46,000 vehicles annually.

  • The project will help reduce greenhouse gas emissions by more than 1 million metric tons from targeted sources.

ISSF President’s Cup

  • The current world champion Rudrankksh Patil of India defeated Danilo Sollazzo of Italy in the men’s 10m air rifle final to win the gold medal at the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) President’s Cup 2022 in Cairo, Egypt.

  • Rudrankksh Patil was awarded the Golden Target award in the category by the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF).

  • India finished the ISSF President’s Cup 2022 with two medals - one gold and one silver.

First Country in the World to Receive $100 Billion in Remittances

  • According to the World Bank report “Migration and Development Brief’, India is to receive $100 billion as remittance in 2022 an increase of 12% as compared to 2021.

  • In 2021 India had received $89.4 billion in remittances.

  • India is the first country in the world to receive $100 billion in remittances from migrant workers abroad.

  • According to the World Bank one of the main reasons for the increase in flow of remittance to India was the wage hike and a strong labour market in the United States of America.

Miss Earth 2022

  • South Korea’s Mina Sue Choi was named Miss Earth 2022 during the pageant’s coronation at Cove Manila, Okada Hotel, Paraaque City.

  • Only three queens received the pageant’s three element titles out of a total of 86 Eco-warriors.

  • Andrea Aguilera of Columbia is Miss Fire 2022, Nadeen Ayoub of Palestine is Miss Water 2022 and Sheridan Mortlock of Australia is Miss Air 2022.

  • Choi also won a few medals at the pre-pageant competitions.

Former Health Secretary Appointed as UPSC Member

  • Andhra Pradesh cadre Indian Administrative (IAS) officer and former health secretary Mrs. Preeti Sudan took the oath of office and secrecy as a member of the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC).

  • UPSC Chairman Dr. Manoj Soni administered the oath to Preeti Sudan at Central Hall, UPSC Main Building.

  • Sudan has been a consultant to the World Bank.

  • She served as Secretary of the Department of Food and Public Distribution and in the Women and Child Development and Defence Ministries.

  • Her notable contributions include starting two of the country’s flagship programs namely ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’ and ‘Ayushman Bharat’.

International Day of Persons with Disabilities

  • International Day of Persons with disabilities 2022 is observed every year on 03 December.
  • The theme for the year 2022 is ‘Transformative solutions for inclusive development: The role of innovation in fuelling an accessible and equitable world’.
  • In 1976, UN General Assembly decided that from 1981 International Day of Persons with Disabilities will be celebrated globally.
  • UN announced December as the official date for celebrating the International Day of Persons with Disabilities.
  • The First paralympic games were hosted in 1960.
  • In 1992 The International Day of People with Disability was proclaimed by the United Nations.
