Asia's largest Solar Power Project Initiated

  • PM has inaugurated the Asia's largest Solar Power Plant in Rewa, Madhya Pradesh
  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi thourg video conferencing has dedicated the Rewa Ultra Mega Solar Power project to the nation (RUMSL).
  • It is the Asia's largest solar power plant with an installed capacity of 750MW.
  • RUMSL is a Jointly set up by Solar Energy Corporation of India and Madhya Pradesh UrjaVikas Nigam Limited in an area of 1590 hectares.

National Fish Farmer's Day celebrated

  • National Fish Farmers Day is celebrated on 10th July every year.
  • It is celebrated in the remembrance of scientists Dr. K. H. Alikunhi and Dr. H.L. Chaudhury  who successfully demonstrated the technology of induced breeding (Hypophysation) 
  • The Union Minister for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying announced the establishment of "Fish Cryobanks" by the joint collaboration of National Fisheries Development Board (NFDB) and National Bureau of Fish Genetic Resources (NBFGR).
  • The Fish Cryobank will facilitate the fish farmers with all time availability of good quality fish sperms for the purpose of fish farming.
  • India is the first country to set up such a facility in the world.

Draft Aids to Navigation Bill 2020 issued by Ministry of Shipping

  • The Minitry of Shipping has issued a draft "Aids to Navigation Bill, 2020" to repeal the colonial "Lighthouse Act, 1927" and to empower Director General of Lighthouses and Lightships (DGLL) with additional powers and functions.
  • The draft bill proposes to include the global best practices, technological developments and India's International obligations in the field of Aids to Marine Navigation.
  • The draft bill provides for empowering DGLL with additional power and functions - Vessel Traffic Service, Wreck flagging, training and certification, implementation of other obligations under International Conventions, where India is a signatory.
  • It also provides for identification and development of heritage lighthouses.

 

Reseaarchers rediscovers the Looped three-ring butterfly species

  • Ypthima watsoni, a butterfly species commonly known as Looped three-ring has been rediscovered in Jampui Hills under the North Tripura district.
  • This butterfly is rediscoverd by a team of researchers of Wild Tripura Foundation of Agartala.
  • Ypthima watsoni, belonging to subfamily Styrene and family Nymphalidae of insect order Lepidoptera has not been recorded for about 61 years.
  • It was last sighted in the year 1958 in Manipur.

Maldives and Sri Lanka has eradicated the Measles and Rubella

  • The WHO South-East Asia  region announced that Maldives and Sri Lanka were the first two countries to eliminate both Measles and Rubella.
  • Member countries of WHO South-East Asia region had set 2023 as the target for elimination of measles and rubella.
  • Bhutan, DPR Korea and Timor-Leste are other countries in the region who have eliminated measles.

Aatamanirbhar Skilled Employee Employer Mapping (ASEEM) portal, launched

  • The Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE) today launched ASEEM portal to help skilled people find sustainable livelihood opportunities.
  • This portal aids employers a medium to recruit skilled employees from the workforce.
  • An APP version of ASEEM portal also developed by National Skill Development Council in collaboration with a Banglore base firm Betterplace.
  • ASEEM will help the migrant workers who were impacted by the COVID-19 outbreak.
