Inter-Ministerial panel to oversee implementation of Paris Agreement
- A high level inter-ministerial panel was set-up to overlook the implementation of Paris Agreement.
- The formation of the panel, named Apex Committee for Implementation of Paris Agreement (AIPA) under the chairmanship of Secretary, MoEFCC.
- The Paris Agreement is an accord within the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, dealing with greenhouse-gas-emissions mitigation, adaptation, and finance, signed in 2016.
Anti-Cyberthreat Application launched
- “Safe Me”, an anti-cyberthreat application was launched by Lucideus, an enterprise cybersecurity solutions provider.
- Lucideus, which worked on security of the BHIM UPI application, aims to empower consumers against rising cyberthreats amid growing digital presence, especially in the post-COVID world.
- The application can be downloaded free on both Android and iOS devices.
INTERNATIONAL NEWS
World Malaria Report released by WHO
- World Health Organisation released the World Malaria Report 2020 recently.
- The following are the findings of this report:
- India is the only high endemic country which has reported a decline of 17.6% in 2019 as compared to 2018.
- In India, the percentage drop in the malaria cases was 71.8% and deaths was 73.9% between 2000 to 2019.
- India achieved a reduction of 83.34% in malaria morbidity and 92% in malaria mortality between the year 2000 and 2019.
- Some of the initiatives to eliminate Malaria infection in India are:
- National Framework for Malaria Elimination (NFME) in 2016 by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
- National Strategic Plan for Malaria Elimination (2017-22)

CCI approves the merger of Srikalahasthi Pipes Limited with and into Electrosteel Castings Limited
- Competition Commission of India (CCI) has approved the amalgamation of Srikalahasthi Pipes Limited (SPL) with and into Electro steel Castings Limited (ECL).
- ECL is a publicly listed company in India and ultimate holding company of the Electro steel group of companies. It is primarily engaged in the business of manufacturing and supply of ductile iron pipes, ductile iron fittings and cast-iron pipes.
- SPL is a publicly listed company in India and also a part of the Electro steel group. It is engaged in the business of manufacturing and supply of ductile iron pipes.
- The proposed combination is an amalgamation of SPL with and into ECL pursuant to a scheme of amalgamation, such that, post the amalgamation, SPL will dissolve and ECL will be the surviving entity.
CCI approves acquisition of Rivigo by SCIL through subscription of compulsorily convertible preference shares
- The Competition Commission of India (CCI) approves acquisition of Rivigo Services Private Limited (Rivigo) by Spring Canter Investment Ltd (SCIL) through subscription of compulsorily convertible preference shares,
- SCIL is an investment holding company incorporated under the laws of Mauritius and does not have any physical presence in India.
- Rivigo is a technology-enabled logistics company in the trucking industry.
Facts on Convertible Preference Shares:
- These shares are corporate fixed-income securities that the investor can choose to turn into a certain number of shares of the company's common stock after a predetermined time span or on a specific date.
- Convertible preferred shares can be converted into common stock at a fixed conversion ratio
IFSCA obtains Membership of International Association of Insurance Supervisors
- The International Financial Services Centres Authority (IFSCA) obtained membership of International Association of Insurance Supervisors (IAIS).
- With this membership IFSCA would have access to IAIS’s global network and would be able to exchange ideas and information with other global regulators.
- The IAIS headquartered in Switzerland, established in 1994, is a voluntary membership organization of insurance supervisors and regulators from more than 200 jurisdictions, constituting 97% of the world's insurance premiums.

National Pollution Control Day
- National Pollution Control Day is observed on December 2 every year in memory of those who suffered and lost their lives in the horrific 1984 Bhopal Gas Tragedy.
- The day is to raise awareness about the importance of pollution control and educate people on how to prevent pollution.
World Persons with Disability day
- To promote an understanding of disability issues and mobilize support for the dignity, rights and well-being of persons with disabilities, the day is celebrated on December 3rd every year.
- The theme for 2020 is "Building Back Better: toward a disability-inclusive, accessible and sustainable post-COVID-19 World".
International Abolition of Slavery Day
- The International Day for the Abolition of Slavery, 2 December, marks the date of the adoption, by the General Assembly, of the United Nations Convention for the Suppression of the Traffic in Persons and of the Exploitation of the Prostitution of Others
