Andhra Pradesh CM launches 'Nadu-Nedu' programme with Rs 12,000 crores to transform School Education

  • With an aim to transform the government schools in the state into vibrant and competitive institutions, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy launched the ‘Nadu-Nedu’ programme.
  • That the government will overcome all the challenges with a goal to meet the requirements of what the changing world expected from the youth then years from now.
  • The scheme launched will be implemented in two phases where the first phase will have 15, 715 government schools.
  • The scheme will cover all the schools in three years with a budget of Rs 12,000 crores.
  • For the first year of the scheme, Rs 3,500 crores will be spent on the development of the infrastructure of the schools.

National Mission 'NISHTHA' launched in J&K

                                     

  • National Initiative for School Heads’ and Teachers’ Holistic Advancement (NISHTHA) was launched in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir with its formal inauguration by Commissioner Secretary, School Education Department, Sarita Chauhan.
  • The event was attended by around 300 teachers, Key Resource Persons (KRPs) and Chief Education Officers, DIET Principals and Educational Administrators.

Bangladesh tops business bribery risk in South Asia

  • Bangladesh has the highest business bribery risk among South Asian courtiers, according to the Trace Bribery Matrix which releases annual ranking for 200 countries.
  • The Matrix evaluates countries under four parameters which are business interaction with the government, anti-bribery deterrence, transparency and civil society oversight.
  • In South Asia, Pakistan and Afghanistan are the only countries where the bribery risk is 'high'. Bhutan has the lowest risk of bribery on the index in South Asia as it is placed at 52 in the ranking.

National Tribal Festival Aadi Mahotsav to begin today in New Delhi

                                      

  • Union Home Minister Amit Shah will inaugurate the National Tribal Festival "Aadi Mahotsav" in New Delhi.The theme of the 15-day Mahotsav being held at Dilli Haat in INA, is celebration of the Spirit of Tribal Culture, Craft, Cuisine and Commerce.
  • The tribal textiles manufactured by master tribal craftsmen from Jammu & Kashmir in the North to Tamil Nadu in the South and from Gujarat in the West to Nagaland/Sikkim in the East will be the main attractions.

Moody's cuts India's GDP growth forecast to 5.6 per cent for 2019

  • Moody's Investors Service slashed India's economic growth forecast to 5.6 per cent for 2019, saying government measures do not address the widespread weakness in consumption demand.
  • We have revised down our growth forecast for India. We now forecast slower real GDP growth of 5.6 per cent in 2019, from 7.4 per cent in 2018.
  • India's economic slowdown is lasting longer than previously expected.

  • Nilam Sawhney, has been appointed as the new Chief Secretary of Andhra Pradesh. She belongs to the 1984 batch of the IAS and from AP Cadre.
  • She takes charge from Neerabh Kumar, who has been holding additional charge as the CS, following the sudden transfer of LV Subramanyam, a week ago.

Navy selects Karabi Gogoi as assistant naval attache in India's Moscow Embassy

  • The Navy has selected Lt. Commander Karabi Gogoi as assistant naval attache at the Moscow Embassy, making her the second woman defence personnel to be appointed for a diplomatic assignment.
  • Currently posted as a naval engineer at the Karwar base of the Navy, the officer is also learning Russian and is expected to take up her new assignment in Moscow next month.
  • She also has an extensive experience in construction of warships and its maintenance.

Brazil’s Jair Bolsonaro to be the chief guest at Republic Day 2020

  • Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro has accepted Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s invitation to be the Chief Guest at India’s Republic Day celebrations in 2020.
  • Prime Minister Modi met Bolsonaro on the sidelines of the 11th BRICS Summit, which is being held in Brasilia.
  • During his meeting with Bolsonaro, Prime Minister Modi invited the President of Brazil to be the chief guest at the Republic Day in 2020.

India-US tri-services exercise 'Tiger Triumph' to begin in Vizag

  • The maiden India-US joint tri-services Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) exercise named 'Tiger Triumph' is scheduled to begin at Visakhapatnam from November 13.
  • Indian Naval ships Jalashwa, Airavat and Sandhayak, Indian Army troops from 19 Madras and 7 Guards, and Indian Air Force MI-17 helicopters and Rapid Action Medical Team (RAMT) would be participating in the exercise.
