NATIONAL

National family health survey-Phase II

  • Dr. Vinod Kumar Paul, Member (Health), NITI Aayog and Shri Rajesh Bhushan,Secretary, Union Ministry of Health and FamilyWelfare, Government of India, released key indicators on population, reproductive and child health, family welfare, nutrition and others for India and 14 States/UTs (clubbed under Phase-II) of the 2019-21 National Family Health Survey (NFHS-5).
  • The States and UTs which were surveyed in the Phase-II are Arunachal Pradesh, Chandigarh, Chhattisgarh, Haryana, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, NCT of Delhi, Odisha, Puducherry, Punjab, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh andUttarakhand.
  • The NFHS-5 survey work has been conducted in around 6.1 lakh sample households from 707 districts (as on March, 2017) of the country; covering724,115 women and 101,839 men to provide disaggregated estimates up to districtlevel.
  • The all-India and State/UT level factsheet released includes information on 131 key indicators. It provides information on important indicators which are helpful in tracking the progress of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in the country.

Key Results of the Report-

  1. The Total Fertility Rates (TFR), an average number of children per womenhas further declined from 2.2 to 2.0 at the national level .
  2. Institutional births have increased substantially from 79 per cent to 89 percent at all-India Level.
  3. Child Nutrition indicators shows a slight improvement at all-India level as Stunting has declined from 38 per cent to 36 per cent, wasting from 21 per cent to 19 per cent and underweight from 36 per cent to 32 percent at allIndia level.
  4. Full immunization drive among children aged 12-23 months has recorded substantial improvement from 62 per cent to 76 per cent at all-India level.

 

India’s first private cryogenic test

  • India’s first privately developed fully cryogenic rocket engine by Skyroot Aerospace, Hyderabad has successfully tested the rocket engine that will power the upper stages of its upcoming Vikram-2 orbital launch vehicle.
  • It has been developed using 3D printing technology and  fuelled by liquefied natural gas and liquid oxygen, which is a high-performance, low-cost and clean rocket fuel.
  • The rocket engine is completely made in India and is titled Dhawan-1, after Indian rocket scientist Satish Dhawan
  • The cryogenic engine is developed using 3D printing with a superalloy which reduces the manufacturing time by more than 95%.

 

Free foodgrain scheme extended

  • The central government has extended the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana (PMGKAY-Phase V) for a  period of  another 4 months from December 2021 till March 2022.
  • The cabinet has approved the extension for 80 crore ration card holders under PMGKAY with 5kg each of rice or wheat a month free of cost, along with the five kg which they are eleiglible on subsidised basis under the National Food Security Act.
  • The PMGKAY scheme for Phase V from December 2021 till March, 2022 would entail an estimated additional food subsidy of Rs. 53344.52 Crore, The total outgo in terms of food-grains for PMGKAY Phase V is likely to be about 163 LMT.

 

International Airport in Noida

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to lay the foundation stone of the Noida International Airport in Uttar Pradesh's at Gautam Buddh Nagar, Jewar, Uttar Pradesh.
  • The airport is going to be build in 1300 hectares of land. The first phase of the airport has  been completed and will have a capacity to hold and commute 1.2 crore passengers a year and the work is scheduled to be completed by 2024.
  • The airport will also be linked to the  Delhi-Varanasi High-Speed Rail, enabling the journey between Delhi and the airport in only 21 minutes.
  • Yamuna Expressway, Western Peripheral Expressway, Eastern Peripheral Expressway, Delhi-Mumbai Expressway and others major highways will be connected to the airport.
  • It will be the Countries largest airport with 6 runway's built at a cost of Rs 5000 crore.

 

INS Vela inducted

  • The Indian Navy has inducted its brand new submarine, the INS Vela, It Is a French designed Scorpene-class submarine built by the Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Ltd, Mumbai.
  • INS Vela is equipped with advanced weapons and sensors. All of these are integrated into the Submarine Tactical Integrated Combat System, or SUBTICS. Once a target is classified, the submarine may choose to engage it using either sea-skimming missiles or heavyweight wire-guided torpedoes.

 

India Indonesia CORPAT held

  • India and Indonesia have been carrying out 37th edition of Coordinated Patrols (CORPAT) along the International Maritime Boundary Line (IMBL) twice in a year from 2002.
  • An indigenously built Missile Corvette Ship Khanjar along with Dornier Maritime Patrol Aircraft, are represented from the Indian side.

 

INTERNATIONAL

NASA’s Dart mission

  • NASA has launched the first palanetary defence test mission called Double Asteroid Redirection Test(DART).
  • The Spacecraft was launched by SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket at Vandenberg Space Force Base in California.
  • It is aimed to test the newly developed technology that will crash into an asteroid and change its course and direction, The Dart mission aims to target and hit a moonlet named Dimorphos. Which is 160 metres in diameter.
  • The sapcecraft is set to collide with it on between Sep26 to Oct 1 2022.

 

FINANCE AND ECONOMICS

Survey on Cryptocurrency

  • Local circles have conducted a survey on Crypto currency after the governments plan to regulate and ban all private crypto currencies.
  • The Survey Revealed that 71% of Indians currently have low or zero trust in international cryptocurrencies and 51% want the Indian government to roll out its own digital currency
  • It adds that 54% Indians don't want the government to legalise cryptocurrencies but tax them like a digital asset abroad, and 26% say they should be legalised and then taxed in India.
  • In an average basis, 71%of Indians studied have low or zero trust in cryptocurrencies while 1% have high trust.

 

Digital Tax Pact agreed

  • Finance Minister has announced that,  India and the United States have agreed for a transitional approach on equalisation levy or digital tax on e-commerce supplies that starts from April 1 2022.
  • India, as well as 135 countries have agreed to examine the global tax norms to ensure that multinationals pay taxes wherever they operate and at a minimum rate of 15%.
  • India and the United States have agreed the same terms shall apply between the United States and India with respect to India's charge of 2% equalisation levy on e-commerce supply of services and the United States' trade action regarding the said Equalisation Levy.

 

MISCELLANEOUS

  • Nov 25th is observed as International day for the elimination of violence against women.
