India hosted annual BRICS Summit virtually
- Prime minister Narendra Modi chaired 13th BRICS summit virtually.
- The theme of the summit chosen by India is Intra BRICS “Cooperation for Contuinity, Consolidation and Consensus”.
- The Summit was participated by all other BRICS Leaders namely, President of Brazil Jair Bolsonaro, President of Russia Vladimir Putin President of China Xi Jinping and President of South Africa Cyril Ramaphosa.
New initiatives taken under India’s head:
- First BRICS Digital Health Summit
- First BRICS Ministerial Joint Statement on multilateral reforms
- BRICS Counter-Terrorism Action Plan
- Virtual BRICS vaccine Research & Development Centre
- BRICS Alliance on Green Tourism etc.
Co-WIN devlops new API
- A new application programming interface (API) has been developed by CoWin called ‘Know Your Customer’s or Client’s Vaccination Status’ or KYC-VS.
- Central government announced an Aadhaar-like authentication system on September to access the covid vaccination status of an individual on the CoWin platform.
- This portal has also been integrated with AROGYA SETU and UMNAG Apps.
- It was developed by Indian government to register vaccinations.
- It is owned and operated by Ministry of Health and family welfare.
INTERNATIONAL
EL-Salvador accepts Bitcoin as legal tender
- El Salvador has become the first country in the world to accept Bitcoin as legal tender.
- The government of El Salvador claimed that the move will give many citizens of the country access to bank services for the first time.
Gaofen-5 in space
- China successfully launched a new Earth observation satellite named Gaofen-5 02.
- It was launched into space using LONG MARCH-4C rocket.
- It helps to monitor environmental protection efforts and boost its natural resources surveillance.
Cuba to innoculate children
- Cuba became the first country in the world to vaccinate children from the age of two against COVID-19.
Countries like China, United Arab Emirates and Venezuela have announced they plan to vaccinate younger children
