India’s new Sherpa for G20

  • Mr. Piyush Goyal, Commerce and industry minister has been elected as the new sherpa(representative) of India for G20.
  • Next G20 Summit is scheduled to take place under Italian Presidency by October 30 2021 in Rome.
  • India will be the part of upcomming G20 and will also convene the summit for the first time by2023.
  • Previously , Prime minister was the Indian sherpa.

About G20: It is an intergovernmental forum comprising 20 nations(19 countries+ European union). It was formed in 26 Sep 1999, to address global issues in Financial stability, Climate change and sustainable goals

 

Increase in MSP for Rabi crops

  • Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) approved an increase in Minimum Support Prices (MSP) for Rabi crops(RMS 2022-2023).
  • Highest absolute increase in MSP has been recommended. MSP has been increased by Rs 400 per quintal on each of lentil, rapeseeds and mustard. On gram, it was increased by Rs 130 per quintal while in case of saf flower, it was increased by Rs 114 per quintal as compared to MSP in 2020.
  • This will encourage farmers to farm larger area under these crops and adopt best technologies and farm practices in order to correct the demand-supply imbalance.

About MSP- The minimum support price (MSP) is an agricultural product price, set by the GoI to purchase directly from the farmer. This is not enforceable by law. By definition, this rate is to safeguard the farmer to a minimum profit for the harvest, if the open market has lesser price than the cost incurred.The Indian government sets the price for 23 commodities twice a year.

 

 

Textile sector to get PLI(Production linked incentive)

  • Central government has approved the production-linked incentive (PLI) scheme of worth Rs 10,683 crore for the textiles sector.
  • It was approved to boost manufacturing and exports.
  • PLI scheme was approved for textiles, MMF (man-made fibre) fabrics, MMF apparel and 10 segments or products of technical textile.

Production linked incentive: It is a form of payment from an employer to an employee, which is directly related to the performance output of an employee and which may be specified in an employment contract.

 

Defence Minister Innaugrates emergency landing facility in (NH)925

  • Union Defence Minister, Rajnath Singh and Union Highways Minister, Nitin Gadkari inaugurated the Emergency Landing Facility on a National Highway in Rajasthan.
  • The emergency landing facility has been constructed on the Satta-Gandhav stretch of National Highway (NH) 925A in Barmer, Rajasthan.
  • C-130J Super Hercules transport aircraft of Indian Air Force (IAF) landed at the emergency field landing.
  • This is the first time where a National highway will be used for emergency landing of fighter aircraft.
  • This facility was developed on NH-925A from Km 41/430 to Km 44/430.
