Prime Minister of India Inaugurates CMS COP 13.

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the 13th Conference of Parties(COP) on Conservation of Migratory Species(CMS) of Wild Animals via video conferencing.
  • The conference was held at Gandhinagar, Gujarat.
  • CMS COP 13 Logo is inspired by the traditional ‘KOLAM’ from southern India.
  • The theme of the CMS COP 13: “Migratory species connect the planet and together we welcome them home.”

 

Election Commission of India gets ‘silver’ award from DARPG.

  • Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances (DARPG), Government of India has awarded ‘silver’ to the election commission of India.
  • The award was presented during the 23rd National Conference on e-Governance, for its excellence in Government Process re-engineering for digital transformation.
  • The award was given to Dr. Sandeep Saxena, Senior Deputy Election Commissioner.

 

National Conference on PMFBY was held in Udaipur.

  • The 4th National Conference on the Implementation of Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY), started in Udaipur, Rajasthan.
  • The Secretary of Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare Sanjay Agarwal inaugurated the two-long day conference.

 

The Government of India signs a New Project with the World Bank.

  • The Government of India has signed a loan agreement of $450 million with the world bank towards supporting a national project on strengthening the nations groundwater institutions.
  • Atal Bhujal Yojana (ABHY) – National Groundwater Management Improvement Programme to be implemented in various states of the country.
  • The states are as follows Gujarat, Maharashtra, Haryana, Karnataka, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, and Uttar Pradesh.
  • The loan agreement was signed by Shri Sameer Kumar Khare, Additional Secretary, Department of Economic Affairs, on behalf of the Government of India.

 

High Level Global Conference on Road Safety in Stockholm.

  • The 3rd High Level Global Conference on Road Safety for Achieving Global Goals 2030 is to be held at Stockholm.
  • Union Minister for Road Transport & Highways and MSMEs Nitin Gadkari is to represent India at the two-day conference in Stockholm.
  • The main focus of the conference is to bring road safety on the global directory.

 

Indonesia elected as chairperson of IFAD Governing Council.

  • The International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) has unanimously elected Indonesia as the chairperson of Governing Council for the period 2020-2022.
  • It was elected at the 43rd Session of the Steering Council which was held in Italy.
  • The steering committee of IFAD is the highest decision maker in the structure.

 

South central railway zone becomes first in India to have energy-neutral stations.

  • The South Central Railways has converted a total of 13 railway stations into “energy neutral” stations.
  • The concept of the energy neutral stations is based on the principle of developing railway stations and buildings with total solar power in order to meet the complete energy requirements.

China and ASEAN to hold special foreign ministers' summit.

  • China and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) is to hold a special foreign ministers' summit in Laos.
  • To discuss on the current global emergency on COVID-19.

 

India becomes world's 5th largest economy.

  • India has emerged as the 5th largest economy in the world said in the report of a US based think tank World Population Review.
  • India gains the 5th spot with a GDP of ₹2.94 trillion, leaving UK and France behind it.

 

ECONOMIC AFFAIRS

Moody's Investors Service cuts India’s GDP forecast.

  • Moody's Investors Service, an American credit rating agency cuts India's GDP growth forecast to 5.4 per cent (2020) from 6.6 per cent.
  • On its Global Macro Outlook, Moody’s predicted that India’s economy has been slowed down in the recent years and it needs to boost its economic recovery plans.

 

SEBI splits Advisory and Distribution Services.

  • The Securities and Exchange Board of India (Sebi) approved the proposal of segregating the advisory and distribution services to strengthen its regulatory framework.
  • Another decision taken by Sebi was approving the regulatory sandbox framework.

Senior National Squash: Ghosal, Joshna Chinappa win men's, women's titles.

  • India's squash ace Joshna Chinappa has bagged the 77th Senior National Championship in woman's category at the ISA courts in Chennai.
  • Saurav Ghosal won in Men's category bagging his 13th title in his career.

 

Asian Youth and Junior Weightlifting Championships 2020.

  • India has won five silver and six bronze medals in the 2020 Asian Youth and Junior Weightlifting Championships in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.
  • In 45-kilogram category, K V L Pavani Kumari won silver.
  • Sidhanta Gogoi clinches silver in youth boys and junior men events in 61-kilogram category.

 

Koneru Humpy Wins Cairns Cup Chess Tournament.

  • World Champion Koneru Humpy won her Cairns Cup Chess Tournament at St Louis in USA.
  • Humpy was given the world champion title in December 2019.

 

India to host junior men's Hockey World Cup 2020.

  • The International Hockey Federation (FIH) announced that India will host the next years Junior Men's Hockey World Cup.
