Govt. of India approved several projects to boost Electronics manufacturing in the country

  • Government of India has approved several projects under Production Linked Incentive Scheme (PLI) to boost domestic large-scale electronics manufacturing industries in India.
  • 16 proposals by various firms were approved under flagship schemes – Make in India, Atma Nirbhar Bharat Abhiyan to boost the export electronics goods to ₹ 6.5 trillion by 2025.

National Wildlife Week is celebrated

  • Wildlife week is annually celebrated across India between 2nd to 8th October with an aim to protect and preserve the flora and fauna of India.
  • The theme of wildlife week 2020 is “RoaR (Roar and Revive) – Exploring Human-Animal Relationships”.

INTERNATIONAL NEWS:

World Teachers’ Day celebrated

  • The World Teachers’ Day is celebrated annually by UNESCO on October 5th each year.
  • The 2020 World Teachers’ Day was celebrated teachers with the theme of “Teachers: Leading in crisis, reimagining the future”.
  • World Teachers’ Day is co-convened in partnership with UNICEF, the International Labour Organization and Education International.

 

AWARDS:

Noble Prize for Physics

  • The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences decided to award one half of the 2020 Nobel Prize in physics to Roger Penrose and the other half jointly to Reinhard Genzel and Andrea Ghez for furthering the understanding of black holes.
  • Penrose has been awarded the prize for the discovery “that black hole formation is a robust prediction of the general theory of relativity,”.
  • Genzel and Ghez have been awarded the prize for the discovery of a “supermassive compact object at the centre of our galaxy.”

 

APPOINTMENTS:

Dinesh Khara appointed as SBI chairman

  • The centre has appointed Dinesh Khara as the new Chairman of State Bank of India (SBI) for a tenure of three years.
  • He has been one of the four managing directors of SBI, replacing Rajnish Kumar – the former chairman.
