National Health Authority and Google Tie up for Ayushman Bharat Implementation

  • The National Health Authority (NHA) has joined hands with Google to collaborate and strengthen the implementation of the government's flagship health scheme, Ayushman Bharat-Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB PM-JAY).
  • The two organizations will be working closely to explore various user cases for increasing process efficiencies in day-to-day applications.
  • Google will also support NHA in improving PM-JAY's digital presence and showcasing relevant content to the 50 crore entitled beneficiaries.
  • In addition, Google will also help provide training and support to NHA personnel to build on digital skills.
  • The collaboration will seek to bolster PM-JAY's objective of reaching the poor and vulnerable, reducing their high out-of-pocket health expenditure, and improving access to quality healthcare.

NITI Aayog, UNDP, AIM launch youth lab prog for entrepreneurs to accelerate innovation

  • In a latest initiative to recognize young people as critical drivers of sustainable development, Atal Innovation Mission (AIM), NITI Aayog and United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) India launched Youth Co: Lab, a youth lab programme which aims at accelerating social entrepreneurship and innovation in young India.
  • To mark the launch, a Letter of Intent (LOI) was signed between AIM, NITI Aayog and UNDP India.

FSSAI ‘Trans-Fat Free’ logo launched-boosts Eat Right India Movement

  • Food Safety & Standards Authority of India (FSSAI)’s new “Trans Fat-Free” logo was launched recently on October 4, 2019 by the Union Health Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan.
  • The Trans Fat-Free logo has been launched as a part of the FSSAI’s movement against the Trans-Fats, the worst among all other fats that pose high health risks
  • Food sector establishments such as manufacturers and restaurants which produce foods with less than 0.2g/100g trans-fat can use this “Trans-fat free” logo on their products and at their outlets as well.

India’s first e-waste clinic to be set up in Bhopal

  • The Bhopal Municipal Corporation (BMC) and the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) have joined hands to set up the country’s first e-waste clinic here, that would enable segregation, processing and disposal of waste from both household and commercial units.

India launches “Green Crackers” in its bid to curb air pollution

  • The Governnment launched green firecrackers. Union Minister for Science & Technology, Earth Sciences and Health and Family Welfare, Dr. Harsh Vardhan today announced in a Press Conference in New Delhi,
  • That Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) labs have been successful in developing various environment-friendly fireworks such as sound emitting crackers, flowerpots, pencils, chakkar and sparklers.
  • He further pointed out that these fireworks, based on new formulations developed by CSIR, have been manufactured and are available in the Indian market for consumers and sellers.

Goa Maritime Conclave– 2019 Inaugurated

  • The Goa Maritime Conclave (GMC)-2019 was inaugurated by the National Security Advisor, Shri Ajit Kumar Doval, at Goa on 4th October 2019.
  • Inaugurating the conclave, which was conducted by the Naval War College, the NSA, during his key note address brought out that the Sea, Cyber, Space are areas which would pose both opportunities and challenges for the future and hoped that engagements during the GMC would help build up on the opportunities and overcome challenges.
  • The 31st edition of the Naval War College Journal was also released by the NSA on the occasion.
  • The theme for the conclave is “Common Maritime Priorities in IOR and need for Regional Maritime Strategy”

5th World Parliament of Science, Religion and Philosophy begins on October 2

  • This year’s World Parliament of Science, Religion and Philosophy will be held at the Shri Dnyaneshwara World Peace Prayer Hall in Loni Kalbhor in the city on October 2.
  • The three-day event is being organised by MIT World Peace University in Pune. At least 500 people, including philosophers, educationists, social workers and scientists, are expected to participate.
  • The theme of the programme this year is ‘role of science, religion and philosophy for world peace and well-being of mankind’.

HP Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur launched the Pragati Rath of the HDFC bank

  • Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur launched the Pragati Rath of the HDFC bank. During the launching occasion, the bank provided a cheque Rs.1 crore to the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund.
  • The bank has also announced that it is to launch the Sustainable Livelihood Initiative in the State.
  • Pragati Rath is a month-long initiative of the HDFC bank. Under the initiative, the van would move to different parts of Himachal Pradesh to provide financial and digital literacy to the people.
  • It is a unique hi-tech van equipped with LED to raise awareness about the best digital practices.
  • The bank is planning to adopt 15 villages of the State under the Holistic Rural Development Programme.

APPOINTMENT

  • Justice Vinod Kumar Sharma has been appointed as new Punjab Lokpal.
  • The State government, however, failed to amend the Punjab Lokpal Act, 1996, hence leaving the Chief Minister and the Cabinet ministers out of its ambit.

 Indo Mongolian Joint Exercise Nomadic Elephant

  • 14th edition of Indo - Mongolian joint military training, Exercise Nomadic Elephant–XIV commenced. The exercise will be conducted from 05 to 18 Oct 19 at Bakloh.
  • The Mongolian Army is being represented by officers and troops of the elite 084 Air Borne Special Task Battalion while Indian Army is being represented by a battalion of the RAJPUTANA RIFLES Regiment.

  • Diahann Carroll, a multiple award-winning African American actor and singer who broke racial barriers with her roles, has died in Los Angeles of cancer. She was 84.

China Open-Naomi Osaka beats world number one Ashleigh Barty in final

  • Naomi Osaka came from a set down to beat world number one Ashleigh Barty in an enthralling China Open final.
  • The Japanese world number four came through 3-6 6-3 6-2 to win her second title in a row, having also triumphed at the Pan Pacific Open in September.
  • She has won 10 straight matches since losing in the last 16 of the US Open.

Christine Wolf clinches Hero Indian Women's Open golf title

  • Perseverance was the key for Austria's Christine Wolf's as she carded three-under 69 and totalled 277 for a three-shot victory in the Hero Women’s Indian Open at the DLF Golf and Country Club course in Gurugram.
  • It was Christine's first title after six years on the Ladies European Tour.

Djokovic wins Japan Open, targets Tokyo 2020 Olympics triumph

  • Djokovic landed his first title since Wimbledon by crushing John Millman in the Japan Open final.
  • The world number one cruised to a 6-3, 6-2 victory in Tokyo as he secured a 76th career singles tournament win.
  • This was Djokovic's first playing visit to the Japanese capital, and he hopes to return in 2020 to challenge for an Olympic gold medal, one of the few honours to have eluded him.

 Harmanpreet Kaur becomes first Indian cricketer to reach 100 T20 International matches

  • Harmanpreet Kaur, Indian women's cricket captain, became India's first cricketer to play 100 T20 Internationals.
  • Harmanpreet achieved this feat in the sixth and final T20 International against South Africa at Surat.
  • Harmanpreet Kaur is the first Indian to achieve this feat in both the female and male categories. Mahendra Singh Dhoni and Rohit Sharma, who have the same 98 matches registered in their names, appear second after her.
