ICONSAT 2020 was held at Kolkata, West Bengal.

  • The International Conference on Nano Science and Technology 2020 (ICONSAT) was held at Biswa Bangla Conventional Centre, in Kolkata.
  • The conference was organized by S.N. Bose National Centre for Basic Sciences, Kolkata in collaboration with the Department of Science and Technology (DST).
  • The main objective is to support the young researchers & students from within the country and abroad in Nano Technological researches.

Aurangabad Airport renamed as Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj Airport.

  • The Maharashtra Government renamed Aurangabad Airport as Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj Airport.
  • The decision was taken in order to honour Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, who was the son of Maratha warrior King Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj.

“Jallianwala Bagh” exhibition is to be inaugurated by the Culture Minister.

  • 130th Foundation Day of National Archives of India, NAI is to be Observed on 11th March where an exhibition titled Jallianwala Bagh will be inaugurated by Culture Minister Prahlad Singh Patel.
  • The exhibition is an attempt to commemorate the centenary of Jallianwala Bagh Massacre covering a period from 1915 to 1950.

 

Odisha - first state to establish department for Self Help Groups(SHG).

  • The Odisha Government has announced the establishment of separate department for Self Help Groups named as “Mission Shakti”.
  • With this Odisha becomes the first state to form a department for SHG for the development of women in Odisha.

Indian Coast Guard conducts ‘SAREX-2020’ exercise in Goa.

  • Indian Coast Guard (ICG) has conducted a 2-day 9th edition of national level search and rescue exercise ‘SAREX-2020’ at Vasco, South Goa from 5th to 7th of March.
  • The theme of the exercise is ‘Harmonization of Maritime and Aeronautical Search and Rescue (HAMSAR)’.
  • The rescue exercise was inaugurated by Dr. Ajay Kumar, IAS, Secretary (Defence), Ministry of Defence.
  • ICG conducts this exercise biennially under the backing of National Maritime Search and Rescue Board (NMSARB) since 2003.

INTERNATIONAL NEWS

UNICEF released a report titled “A New Era for Girls”.

  • The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) in association with UN Women and Plan International released a report titled “A New Era for Girls: Taking stock on 25 years of progress”.
  • The report unveils that Indian Girls still face violence and discrimination even after 25 years of Beijing Declaration which was aimed at advancing women’s and girls’ rights in the country.

BOOKS AND AUTHORS

Odisha CM released book titled “The Adventures of the Daredevil Democrat”.

  • On the commemoration of the 104th birth anniversary of former Odisha CM Late Biju Patnaik, the current Chief Minister of Odisha Naveen Patnaik has released the comic book titled “The Adventures of the Daredevil Democrat” in Bhubaneswar, Odisha.
  • The comic book, prepared by Kalinga Foundation Trust and published by New Delhi- based the Creative workshop.

 

Smriti Irani releases book titled “Chronicles of Change Champions” at New Delhi.

  • Union Minister of Women & Child Development, Smriti Irani has released a book titled “Chronicles of Change Champions” at New Delhi.
  • The book is all about the 25 innovative initiative taken under the “Beti Bachao Beti Padhao” (BBBP) scheme by the Government.
  • “Beti Bachao Beti Padhao” Scheme was launched by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 22 January 2015 at Panipat, Haryana with the focus of providing education and eliminating gender based discrimination in the Indian Society.

 

APPOINTMENTS

Mahindra-Ford venture names Anurag Mehrotra as Chief Executive.

  • The Managing Director of Ford India, Anurag Mehrotra was appointed as the Chief Executive officer for the New joint venture formed by Mahindra and Ford.
  • The value of the joint venture is of about $275 million (₹1,925 crore).
  • Mahindra will own the controlling stakes of 51 per cent, while Ford will own 49 percent stakes in the new company.

 

Daren Tang elected as WIPO’s Director General.

  • Singapore’s Daren Tang was elected as Director General of World Intellectual Property Organisation(WIPO) replacing Australia’s Francis Gurry.
  • The World Intellectual Property Organization is one of the 15 specialized agencies of the United Nations headquartered at Geneva Switzerland.
