Government proposes to create 75 lakh Self Help Groups(SHG)

  • Union Minister for Agriculture & Farmers Welfare, Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Narendra Singh Tomar has proposed to create 75 lakh SHG by the year 2022.
  • The Minister announced the decision in an event in New Delhi to commemorate the International Women’s Day 2020.
  • Women’s SHGs are the backbone of poverty alleviation programmes and the entire focus of the Ministry is towards women’s freedom.

 

Andhra Pradesh ranked 1st in the implementation of Poshan Abhiyan.

  • Poshan Abhiyan (National Nutrition Mission) is a flagship programme initiated by the Government of India for the attainment of Nutrition rich society.
  • The main focus is to achieve improvement in Nutritional status of children from 0-6 years, adolescent girls, pregnant women and lactating mothers with in a time phase.
  • NITI Aayog shared a report saying, the state of Andhra Pradesh ranked 1st in the country for overall implementation of Poshan Abhiyan.

‘Fagli’ festival was celebrated in Kinnaur, Himachal Pradesh.

  • The Traditional Festival of Himachal Pradesh called “Fagli” was celebrated on March 10th at kinnaur district in Yangpa village.
  • The festival is being celebrated in order to recognize the offset of Winter and to welcome the onset of spring.

National Conference on Women in Police and CAPFs held in New Delhi

  • Union Minister for Women and Child Development, Smriti Irani has inaugurated the “National Conference on Women in Police and CAPFs” at New Delhi.
  • The Conference was organized by the Bureau of Police Research and Development (BPR & D).
  • The Themes of this 2020 years’ conference is:

                        “Cyber Stalking and Bullying of Women: Steps for Protection”

                       “Challenges faced by CAPF Women in Operational Areas”.

  • During the conference the Minister also unveiled a book titled “To Greater Heights” which tells about the achievements of Women Police Officers, written by Nitu, DIG (Deputy Inspector General), CRPF.

 

Nupur Kulshrestha has become the first woman DIG in Indian Coast Guard.

  • Nupur Kulshrestha becomes the 1st woman to be promoted as Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Indian Coast Guard(ICG), she has joined Indian Coast Guard in 1999.

Andhra Pradesh CM lauched NIGHA app to control electoral malpractices.

  • Y S Jaganmohan Reddy, Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh launched the NIGHA application at Vijayawada.
  • The app was developed by Panchayat Raj and is aimed at reducing the use of money and alcohol in the upcoming local body elections.

India ranks 46th in the Inclusive Internet Index 2020

  • Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) authorised by the Facebook, has released its 4th edition of the Internet Inclusive Index for the year 2020.
  • In which India ranked 46th position among the 100 countries that are took for the survey.
  • The index measures the extent upto which the Internet is accessible, affordable and enabling positive socio and economic outcomes at the individual and group level.
  • Sweden tops the list followed by New Zealand and United States in the 2nd and 3rd position respectively.

UNDP’s first Gender Social Norms Index 2020 released.

  • United Nations Development Programme(UNDP) has released its first edition of report on the Gender Social Norms Index(GSNI) 2020 which reveals that 9 in 10 people are biased against Women.
  • The study was conducted in 75 countries, almost 80% of the world’s population.
  • The most important report of the survey is that there is no perfect gender equality country.
  • Pakistan tops the list of with 99.81 % Highest number of bias against women which is followed by Qatar and Nigeria with 99.73% and Zimbabwe with 99.56%.

Australia beat India to win ICC Women's T20 World Cup

  • Australia have won the ICC Women's T20 World Cup for record fifth time by defeating India by 85 runs in the summit clash at Melbourne.

 

Hockey India 3rd annual awards 2019 was held in New Delhi

  • Hockey India has organized its 3rd Annual Awards 2019 in New Delhi to honour the best hockey players and former legends of the game from India.
  • Manpreet Singh Pawar has won the Hockey India Dhruv Batra Player of the Year Award 2019 for Men.
