Defence Minister addresses Armed Forces Flag Day-CSR Conclave

  • Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has expressed confidence that the corporate sector will contribute generously for the welfare of ex-servicemen.
  • Addressing the Armed Forces Flag Day-CSR Conclave in New Delhi, Mr Singh said he is confident that the corporate sector and wealth creators in the country will contribute to the corpus of the Department of Ex-servicemen Welfare.
  • Common people had generously contributed to Bharat Ke Veer Fund for the bereaved families of soldiers who laid down their lives in the line of duty.

Global Migration Film Festival was organised in Dhaka

  • The Global Migration Film Festival (GMFF) was organised in Dhaka.
  • The day long festival screened 15 films on the theme of migration and its various aspects.
  • The GMFF was started in 2016 and this year it is being organised across many cities in the world between 28 November to 18 December.
  • The short films and documentaries shown during the festival were selected through a global competition for which 600 entries were received. The jury selected 30 best films out of which 15 were screened in Dhaka.
  • The festival was organised by the International Organisation of Migrants (IOM) and Dhaka University Film Society with the support of European Union.

APPOINTMENT 

Lt Gen PS Rajeshwar takes over as Commander-in-Chief of Andaman & Nicobar Command (CINCAN)

  • Lt Gen Podali Shankar Rajeshwar took over as the 14th Commander-in-Chief of the Andaman & Nicobar Command (CINCAN).
  • Lt Gen Rajeshwar has actively taken part in Operation Meghdoot and Operation Rakshak, and has commanded a Medium Regiment in Operation Parakram, an infantry brigade on the Line of Control, Counter Insurgency (Romeo) Force in Jammu & Kashmir, and a Corps in the Desert sector.
  • He has served on various staff assignments and also been UN Military Observer in Mozambique and Rwanda.

Author Tony Joseph’s ‘Early Indians’ wins 2019 Shakti Bhatt First Book Prize

  • English author Tony Joseph has won the 12th ‘Shakti Bhatt First Book Prize’ for his 2018 book, Early Indians: The Story of Our Ancestors and Where We Came From, the Shakti Bhatt Foundation announced.

Veteran Hollywood actress Shelley Morrison passes away

  • Shelley Morrison, an actress with a 50-year career who was best known for playing a memorable maid on 'Will & Grace,' passed away.
  • Morrison died at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles from heart failure after a brief illness, publicist told. She was 83.
  • Morrison played Rosario Salazar, a maid from El Salvador, in the original run of 'Will & Grace' from 1999 to 2006, becoming part of a cast that won a Screen Actors Guild award for best ensemble in a comedy series.

Vinesh Phogat, Sakshi Malik clinch gold in the Senior Wrestling National Championships

  • Star wrestlers Vinesh Phogat and Sakshi Malik registered convincing wins in the finals to claim gold medals at the Senior Wrestling National Championships in Jalandhar.
  • While Phogat beat 20-year-old Haryana’s Anju 7-3 in the 55kg category, Olympic bronze medallist Malik defeated Radhika of Haryana 4-2 in the 62kg category yesterday.
  • In the 68kg category, 35-year-old Haryana wrestler Anita Sheoran stunned Commonwealth Games bronze medallist Divya Kakran.
  • Punjab’s 35-year-old Gursharan Kaur, a single mother of a five-year-old girl, claimed the title in the 76kg category, with a 4-2 win over Pooja of Haryana.

International Day of Persons with Disabilities-3 December

  • The annual observance of the International Day of Disabled Persons was proclaimed in 1992 by United Nations General Assembly resolution 47/3.
  • It aims to promote the rights and well-being of persons with disabilities in all spheres of society and development, and to increase awareness of the situation of persons with disabilities in every aspect of political, social, economic and cultural life.
  • 2019 Theme- Promoting the participation of persons with disabilities and their leadership: taking action on the 2030 Development Agenda.
