World cancer day 2020

  • The world cancer day has been observed on 4th February of every year.
  • It is being celebrated to raise awareness about cancer and to prevent it.
  • This year the day is being observed with the tagline “I AM AND I WILL”.
  • On this day the cancer institute (WIA), Adyar, has launched an initiative to provide silicon breast prosthesis to help rehabilitate women who have undergone mastectomy for breast cancer.

 

TN government releases action plan on climate change

  • The government proposes to carry out 199 planned activities in seven key sectors by 2030.
  • The plan has been prepared in reference with the nationally determined contribution, that India submitted under the Paris agreement in 2015.
  • The project implementation would start from January 2021 with the total resource requirement of ₹3.24 lakh cr expected, but still a possible gap of ₹1.04 lakh cr.
  • The seven key sectors are as follows, sustainable agriculture, water resources, forest and diversity, coastal area management, strategic knowledge for climate change, energy and solar mission, sustainable habitat.

 

Defence expo 2020

  • The 11th edition of prestigious defence expo 2020 will be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi today in Lucknow, in the presence of union Defence Minister and Local MP Rajnath Singh.
  • The five-day mega exhibition event will be attended by delegates from more than 70 countries.
  • This expo helps to bring new technologies, technological solutions, where Defence manufacturing companies from all over India and foreign countries showcase their products and services in Defence arena.
  • The military equipment developed by Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and Hindustan Aeronautics Limited(HAL) will also be showcased at this event to highlight the “make in India” defence equipment.

 

President Ramnath Kovind inaugurates Annual Udyanotsav

  • The Annual Udyanotsav of Rashtrapati Bhavan was inaugurated by president Ramnath Kovind.
  • The Udyanotsav is the showcasing of Mughal garden at Rashtrapati Bhavan.

Bharti Airtel inquires a loss of ₹1,035 cr and PNB with ₹492 cr loss

  • The telecom operator Bharti Airtel inquires a loss of ₹1,035 cr for the third quarter ended December 31,2019.
  • The company earlier recorded a profit of ₹86 cr.
  • Punjab national bank(PNB) clocks net loss of ₹492 cr for the third quarter ended December 31,2019, while the bank has recorded a profit of ₹247 cr in the same quarter last year.

 

DICGC raises insurance cover for depositors

  • The deposit insurance and credit guarantee corporation(DICGC), a subsidiary of the reserve bank of India, has raised the limit of insurance cover from ₹1 lakh to ₹5lakh for depositors in insured banks.
  • This effect is with a view to provide protection to depositors in banks. Mainly benefits small- and medium-sized private sector and co-operative banks.
  • Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has made the announcement on increasing the cover to ₹5 lakhs.

 

Cognizant acquires code zero consultancy

  • Code zero consultancy, a privately-held provider of consulting and implementation services for cloud based configure-price-quote(CPQ) and billing solutions was acquired by cognizant.
  • This action helps cognizant to strengthen its cloud solutions portfolio and sales-force CPQ and billing capabilities.

Weightlifting: Mirabai Chanu rewrote her own record

  • Former world champion Mirabai Chanu(weightlifting) rewrote her own national record by two kilograms.
  • she lifted a total of 203kg to win the 49kg gold in the National Championships in Kolkata.
  • With this record the 25-year-old Manipuri Mirabai Chanu moves to the fourth position in the world ranking for weightlifting.
