AYUSH Minister Inaugurates National Research Institute of Unani Medicine for Skin Disorders

Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for AYUSH Shri Shripad Yesso Naik inaugurated  National Research Institute of Unani Medicine for Skin Disorders (NRIUMSD) upgraded from Central Research Institute of Unani Medicine (CRIUM) at AG Colony Road, Erragadda, Hyderabad.

Tamil Nadu becomes first State to enact law on contract farming

  • Tamil Nadu has become the first State in the country to enact a law on contract farming with President Ram Nath Kovind giving assent to the Agricultural Produce and Livestock Contract Farming and Services (Promotion and Facilitation) Act.
  • The law would safeguard the interests of farmers when there is a bumper crop or during major fluctuation in market prices. In such a scenario, the farmers will be paid a predetermined price arrived at the time of signing agreements with buyers.

IIIT Hyderabad researchers create first ever Indian Brain atlas

  • Researchers at the IIIT Hyderabad that the first ever Indian Brain Atlas (IBA) has been created.
  • They stated that the next step is to prepare atlases for different age groups to study age related effects on brain anatomy.
  • The average brain size of an Indian was smaller in height, width and volume in comparison to people of the Caucasian and eastern races.
  • The immediate implication of this finding can be seen in treatment outcomes of neurological problems or brain related ailments - like dementia, Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease etc.

Rafael Grossi elected as the new IAEA head

                                    

  • Rafael Mariano Grossi of Argentina has been elected as the new Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency.
  • In the final balloting held, Grossi received the required majority from the IAEA Board of Governors to be appointed new Director General.

Sadako Ogata: First female UN refugee chief dies at 92

                                  

  • A Japanese academic and diplomat who became the first female to be appointed UN High Commissioner for Refugees has died aged 92.
  • Sadako Ogata worked on some of the largest crises of the decade during her time in service from 1991 to 2000.
  • Challenges included helping Kurdish refugees fleeing from Iraq after the 1991 Gulf War, and the Balkans War.
  • She was known for her great passion in working to protect the "defenceless and dispossessed".

Pooja lights up day for India at Worlds with bronze medal
