India’s AI supercomputer Param Siddhi 63rd among top 500 most powerful non-distributed computer systems in world

  • India’s Artificial Intelligence supercomputer Param Siddhi has achieved 63rd rank among top 500 most powerful non-distributed computer systems in the world.
  • Several packages developed under the National Supercomputing Mission for drug design and preventive health care system, flood-forecasting package for flood prone metro cities like Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai, Patna and Guwahati.
  • This will help in further research & development to battle against COVID-19 through faster simulations, medical imaging, genome sequencing and forecasting.

L&T delivers India’s first launch hardware for Gaganyaan Mission to ISRO

  • Larsen & Toubro has delivered the first hardware, a booster segment, for the Gaganyaan Launch Vehicle to the Indian Space Research Organisation.
  • The launch scheduled for a flag off ceremony presided over by ISRO Chairman K. Sivan.
  • The middle segment of the world’s third-largest solid propellant rocket booster - ‘S-200 was produced at L&T’s Powai Aerospace Manufacturing Facility in Mumbai.
  • L&T is playing a vital role in powering ISRO’s Human Space Flight Program (HSFP).

Arunachal Pradesh records best sex ratio in India, Manipur the worst

  • A 2018 report on the ‘vital statistics on India based on the Civil Registration System’ has revealed that Arunachal Pradesh records the best sex ratio in the country while Manipur records the worst.
  • The Office of the Registrar General & Census Commissioner released the report.
  • Sex ratio at birth is number of females born per thousand males.
  • Arunachal Pradesh recorded 1,084 females born per thousand males, followed by Nagaland (965) Mizoram (964) and Kerala (963), while Manipur (757) recorded the worst.
  • The number of registered births increased to 2.33 crore in 2018 from 2.21 crore registered births the previous year.
  • The level of registration of births has increased to 89.3% in 2018 from 81.3% in 2009.

PM Modi addresses 3rd Annual Bloomberg New Economy Forum

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi has addressed the 3rd Annual Bloomberg New Economy Forum through video-conferencing.
  • The forum witnessed discussions on refuelling the economy and charting a course for the future, as the world economy is grappling with the COVID-19 pandemic.
  • The Bloomberg New Economy Forum was established in 2018 by Michael Bloomberg, to build a community of leaders to engage in real conversations leading to actionable solutions.
  • The inaugural Forum was held in Singapore and the Second Annual Forum was hosted in Beijing.

IIT Delhi ranks #1 in employability in India, 27th in World

  • IIT Delhi has been ranked as the top university in terms of employability in India and 27th in the world in Global Employability Ranking & Survey or GEURS 2020.
  • US Universities continued to remain in the top spot and among the best performing countries are Germany, China and South Korea.
  • IIT Delhi climbed 27 ranks from 54th in 2019 to 27th in 2020.
  • India has shown a commendable increase in overall employability, rising to number 15 position, vis a vis its 23rd rank in 2010.
