India suspends E-Visas for travelers from China

  • The center has temporarily suspended the online visa facilities for Chinese nationals and those flying out of their country. This action comes with a second student of Wuhan University tested positive of deadly Corona virus in Kerala.

India – Maldives signed five MoUs

  • India – Maldives signed five MoUs for establishing the Addu Tourism zone in five islands of Addu atoll at cost of 2.49 mn dollars.
  • Another MoU to setup a Bottled Water Plant in Hoarafushi was also signed.
  • All these grant projects fall under India’s High Impact Community Development Scheme (HICDS)

Relief supplies to cyclone hit Madagascar by India through INS Airavat

  • Madagascar has been hit by cyclone causing loss of lives and displacement of number of people. Indian Navy has launched operation Vanilla to provide humanitarian assistance and disaster relief to Madagascar. The relief supplies were carried by Indian Naval ship INS Airavat

Madhya Pradesh excels in the implementation of PMMVY

  • Madhya Pradesh bagged the first position for the implementation of Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana. Indore district is selected for the better performance of the scheme. Union Minister of Women and Child Development presented the award to Madhya Pradesh
  • The main objective of PMMVY is to provide incentives of Rs. 5000 for the loss of wages of working women and to ensure their proper rest and nutrition during pregnancy.

2130 Kerala Backwater Islands comes under CRZ zone

  • Coastal Regulation Zone regime now includes Maradu backwater island of Kerala thereby imposing curbs on development activities. No new developmental activities will be permitted in these islands in an area between the high tide line (HTL) and 50 meters towards the landward side.

 

159 Butterfly species in Chhattisgarh says Research Journal “Bionotes”

  • The report from the journal says that 159 butterfly species were found in the state having 23 new species. The list was prepared by scientist Anupam Singh Sisodia.

Ekushey book fair at the Bangla Academy premises in Dhaka

  • The biggest and longest book fair of Bangladesh, Ekushey, a month-long book fair was inaugurated by Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheik Hasina. It is organized in February of every year commemorating the Martyrs of the Language Movement of erstwhile East Pakistan.
  • The Prime Minister unveiled the colour of a book “Amar Dekha Naya Chin – The New China as I Saw” written by Banghabandhur Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

 

Somalia declares National Emergency following locust infestation

  • The locust infestation swept the countries in Horn of Africa as insects devastate food supplies. Small plains are flying low over affected areas to spray pesticides.
  • Horn of Africa, region of eastern Africa consists of Djibouti, Eritrea, Ethiopia, and Somalia.

Australian Open 2020 – Djokovic beats Thiem to clinch 8th title, regains world’s No. 1 rank

  • Serbia’s Novak Djokovic won his record eighth Men’s singles title in Australian open at Rod Laver arena in Melbourne. He beat Dominic Thiem of Austria.
  • The Men’s Doubles title was won by Joe Salisbury of U.K. and American Rajeev Ram

 

Joshna Chinappa in Semi-Final of Cleveland Classic PSA world tour event

  • India’s squash ace Joshna Chinapa seeded fifth, stormed into the semi finals of the Cleveland Classic PSA World Tour Bronze event. She beat Annie Au of Hong Kong.
  • Joshna will take on the top ranked Nour El Tayeb of Egypt in the finals.
