SSC CHSL LEVEL OF EXAMS :

  • The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) start conducting the Combined Higher Secondary Level (CHSL) in three levels for various posts.
    Tier Type Mode

    Tier – II Descriptive Paper in English/Hindi Pen and Paper mode

  • Before beginning the SSC CHSL preparation, it is important to make note of changes in exam pattern and syllabus. The modifications to SSC CHSL Exam Pattern 2018 are given below :
    • SSC CHSL 2018 Tier 1 will be conducted in online mode.
    • Introduction of a descriptive paper of 100 marks within 60 minutes in pen and paper mode.
    • Reduction in time limit for examination of Tier -I from 75 minutes to 60 minutes.
    • Tier III will remain same.
    • No Sectional Cut off.

SSC CHSL Tier-I Exam Pattern :

  • The Tier-I online Examination will consist of objective Type multiple choice questions only. There are 4 sections in the Tier 1 exam of SSC CHSL 2018, with 100 questions which account for a total of 200 marks.

Important Points :

  • The questions will be set both in English & Hindi except for English section.
  • There will be negative marking of 0.50 marks for each wrong answer.
  • Marks scored by candidates in Tier-I will be normalized and the normalized scores will be used to determine final merit and cut-off marks.
  • The exam duration is 80 minutes for candidates who are visually handicapped.

SSC CHSL Tier-II Exam Pattern :

  • This is a descriptive exam that is designed to test the written skills of the candidates in English/Hindi. The Paper would comprise writing of an Essay of 200-250 words and Letter/Application writing of approximately 150-200 words. The performance in Tier II would be included for preparing merit.
  • Important Points :
    • The exam is of 60 minutes duration and carries 100 marks.
    • The exam duration is 80 minutes for candidates who are visually handicapped or suffer from cerebral palsy.
    • The Paper would comprise writing of an Essay of 200-250 words.
    • The Paper would comprise writing of Letter/Application writing of approximately 150-200 words.
    • The minimum qualifying marks in Tier-II would be 33 per cent.
    • The performance in Tier II would be included for preparing merit.
    • The paper will have to be written either in Hindi or in English.
    • Part paper written in Hindi and Part in English will not be evaluated.

SSC CHSL Tier-III Exam Pattern :

The Tier 3 of SSC CGL Exam 2018 comprises of a skill test or typing test according to the post you applied for and is qualifying in nature. Here are the details :

  • Skill Test for Data Entry Operator (DEO) :
    • Skill Test is mandatory for Data Entry Operators. No candidate is exempted from appearing in the Skill Test.
    • Data Entry Speed of 8,000 (eight thousand) Key Depressions per hour on Computer.
    • The Speed of “8000 key depressions per hour on computer" will be adjudged on the basis of the correct entry of words/key depressions as per the given passage.
    • The duration of the Test will be 15 (Fifteen) minutes.
    • Printed matter in English containing about 2000-2200 key-depressions would be given to each candidate who would enter the same in the Computer.
    • For the post of DEO in the Office of the Comptroller and Auditor General of India (C&AG): The "speed of 15000 key depressions per hour on Computer" will be adjudged on the basis of the correct entry of words/key depressions.
  • Typing Test for Postal Assistant/Sorting Assistant LDCs and Court Clerks :
    • Typing Test will be conducted in English or Hindi and candidates while applying for the Examination, will have to indicate his/her choice/option for Skill Test Medium in the Application Form.
    • Typing Test will be of qualifying in nature.
    • It will be administered on the Computer, to be provided by the Commission or any agency authorized by the Commission.
    • Candidates opting for English medium should have typing speed of 35 words per minute.
    • Candidates opting for Hindi medium should have typing speed of 30 words per minute.
    • The speed will be adjudged on the accuracy of typing on the Computer of a given text passage in 10 minutes.
    • Visually Handicapped candidates (with 40% disability and above) will be allowed 30 minutes.

  • Tier-III of SSC CHSL 2018 will be a Skill/Typing Test which would be of a qualifying nature. The final merit of the selected candidates will be based on the basis of total score obtained in Tier-I and Tier-II.
  • Skill test for Data Entry Operator : In this test, a candidate must have data entry speed of 8,000 (eight thousand) Key Depressions per hour. Duration of the Test will be 15 minutes and English document having about 2000-2200 strokes/key-depressions would be given to type.
